The party nears the capital. The Eastern houses against the slopes of the mountain rise before them and the lakes edges reach out to them like fingers.
As they enter the castle compound the party is apprehended by guards. The party is brought to several rooms. Salvador and Otto are taken to the dungeons.
During those two days the rest of the party are prohibited from leaving their appointed rooms in the palace because they are key witnesses in a trial about high treason. During those days they are asked to relay their stories to the persecutor first.
They are being led by several guards to a public courtroom and seated on a small bench on the side. The king is seated in the front of the court behind five judges. His ire is visible on his face and he wears silks with a heavy jewel necklace with an emerald encased in it.
Firstly, the statepersecutor accuses Salvador with:
Communing with HUMAN bandits (comitting treason)
Slandering the realm, high court or monarch
Premeditating the fall of the current or future monarchy
Law in Elenon
After this he starts interogating the witnessess in this order:
Prince Naill – speaks against Salvador. Says that Salvador tried to kidnap the princess while the situation was under control.
Princess Naeris – is mostly confused. Salvador has never done her wrong but on the other hand, the events of the past week have horrified and traumatized her. She doesn’t want to see Salvador severely punished.
Dante – Has told the events as they occurd according to him. Salvador made some rash actions against the royal family and has brought them in grave danger. He is selfish and up to no good.
Otto – Tries to save Salvador and his own hide. Tells a story in which Salvador and he worked together to save the princess from the bandits by posing as the daughter and grandfather to the Rosetti family. This way Otto could convince the bandits to hold her ransom instead of raping and selling them as slaves. He also explains that he is a veteran from the human kingdom and was tasked to sabotage this banditgroup.
After this he interogates Salvador, who may only answer with a positive or negative. It seems Salvador has commited high treason and will be executed for it. Salvador is allowed a last plead but the outcome of the trials seems fairly set.
Salvador – Is mostly just being a clever and arrogant dick.. Voices doubts about the small caravan and the fact that there were so few guards and that he himself insisted on an extra kart and guards. He notes that he voiced his worries to the king and that the party did no such thing thereby neglecting there obligation to protect te monarch and his family.
During the journey they were only lollygagging and even invited the princess into their “pleasurecart”. He points out that the odds in the fight with the bloodpurist elves were highly unfavourable and he decided that he should get the prince and princess out of danger. He did not kidnap them only asked. The prince refused as was his right to do.
He decided to do the journey on foot and continue to the human kingdom since that was the least likely place for them to be found. (Dante cuts in: “On foot!? For a week!? Seems like you where very hard trying not to be found!”)
When the bandits found them they posed as Dante’s family and with the assistance of Otto managed to keep the princess from harm. He points out that Otto seemed quite hostile towards the bandits that acompanied him.
He points out that the rest of the party did not:
i. Ask for reenforcements
ii. Pay attention for attackers and danger
iii. Behave courtious toward the prince and princess
iv. Have a plan of strategy toward dangers and had to improvise when they got attacked
v. Spend any time wondering / pondering about the little escort and simply accepted it
b. What happened to the guard that was with them? Did they leave the poor fellow there to die?
c. Questions the loyalty of jan martijn and his trustworthiness, since he wanted to sell the prinsess
f. Questions Otto’s true intentions due to him being far smarter and capable then the avarage bandit
After Salvador’s plea a man stands up in the crowds. He is finely dressed and a necklace and several jewels are visibly glittering. He introduces himself as Spellfior, the guard that was left behind. Spellfior relays how he was left behind because the traitor Salvador had kidnapped the princess. He tells a story of a lone warrior left behind to defeat an army of elves. Only four were visible but when the others had left it turned out to be at least ten more. Spellfior barely left with his life and was so exhausted that the return home had taken more than a week on foot of which two days were spent recuperating. Spellfior feels that the whole party has abandoned their duty and should all be punished.
The whole party is thrown into jail to await the results of the trial. It feels like at least a week has passed. They don’t see Salvador anymore.
Afterwards the party is thrown in some karts. There are no windows and the doors are heavily barred. Dante and Lotta are in one kart and Otto in another. Otto is able to speak with a guard and discovers that they are being taken to the humans to be executed. Otto wil be transferred into human custody to be tried as they wish.
When the karavan makes camp for the night Dante and Lotta try to escape. They succeed but when they enter the camp ready to filet anyone in their way they notice that it’s empty. Or better said.. Devoid of living beings. Corpses litter the ground as if they fell in the middle of their activities. Each and everyone of the is cut open in the same way. What was probably a small dagger cut through half of their throats and severed there vocal cords and windpipe.
Lotta catches a glimps of a figure moving in near the forest. She runs after it trying to catch it. In the dark twilight she can make out a slender figure with pointed ears but he outruns her and disappears in the dark.
The party frees Otto and loots the carts, takes some horses and try to distance themselves from the caravan and the murderer that brutally slaughtered tens of people.
